Mobile Applications

Voltweb offers software development solutions for mobile phones and PDA's. In recent times we have specialised in developing applications for the Nokia Series 60 platform. This includes both standard applications and complete wireless solutions, where the hand-held device communicates with other devices and servers.

Previously, wireless solutions were implemented using a web browser in the hand-held device or via JAVA programming (midlets), but today's Smartphone technology has resulted in huge improvements in the overall user experience. The screens can now show detailed graphics, much like an ordinary PC-application, and it is also possible to access various features which cannot be reached through JAVA programming: (for example the phone book, camera, sound recording and full control of file systems).

Phone book access is vital for any application. Interfacing into the standard phone book allows users to select phone numbers and email addresses from data they have already entered. This is not possible through JAVA programming where the problem is often solved with an additional phone book, resulting in the user having to re-enter their contact data.

The built in camera, which has already proved a highly popular phone accessory, is also very useful for serious applications, for example where photo documentation needs to be reported back to a company.

Here are some examples of how Series 60 applications are used:
